Austria for Life - Projection Mapping

It was an honour to take part in the "Austria for Life" charity event, supporting those severely affected by the pandemic. In a two-hour live show, artists from all disciplines came together for a good cause.

One of the most remarkable moments of the event was the impressive projection mapping on Vienna's iconic St. Stephen's Cathedral. Along with 20 of Austria's finest visual artists, we created a unique experience. Collaborating with Lumalux, we recreated the historic fire that destroyed the cathedral in 1945, using real-time smoke simulation tool embergen to ensure a fast workflow.

It was an incredibly fulfilling project for us, using our skills to contribute to a greater cause and collaborate with such amazing artists. We are proud to have been a part of this event, leaving a lasting impact on the audience and Vienna's cultural landscape.

The sound design was done by Thomas Rabitsch and tonmasmerstelseder.

Using Embergen allowed for a fast workflow since you can work in a node based realtime environment. This was really a game changer compared to classic software tools for smoke simulations which take ages to simulate and render.

We imported a model of the Cathedral as a collision object for the fire. Furthermore we created different variations of fire from the inside and also a fire rain coming down.
